Taking inventory and making course corrections

Published on January 24, 2009

Every so often its good to take a step back and evaluate the track you’re on. Over the course of a recent self-inventory I determined that I really need to get some things figured out. So I’ve set up some new rules:

I need to dedicate more time to meditation and personal study in the morning. [...]

The way it was…the way it is…

Published on January 21, 2008

I was born in 1973. I grew up in a small town in Oregon. I had a bb gun and a motorcycle. I rode around in the back of my dad’s pick up and waved at passing cops - they waived back. I would leave home after breakfast and return at dinner. My mom never worried [...]

The world is driven by emotion

Published on January 16, 2008

The stock market no longer moves based on sound fundamentals - it swings on the emotion of fund managers, media opinion, politics, and the average Joe’s paranoia.
On that note, Apple’s stock sunk yesterday when Steve Jobs didn’t announce any new ground breaking products at MacWorld. Fundamentally the company couldn’t be doing any better.

MBA school - to go or not to go - a guide to the eternal question…

Published on December 5, 2007

I indicated in another post that I was going to tackle the eternal question of whether one should get an MBA or not. Sorry for the long post but I hope it helps those of you who have been wondering. Here it goes…

Why getting sued was a really good thing for me

Published on November 27, 2007

At one point in my life (early 2000’s) I was set on the idea that I was heading off to law school. Then I got sued. It was an experience that I will never forget. I’m not going to go into all the details of what happened except to say that in the end I [...]

Great thoughts from this week

Published on October 11, 2007

From Valleywag:
“Overstock.com usually charges $2.95 per order for shipping. However, when they drop the shipping price to $1, the average order size skyrockets. Why does saving two dollars on a $400 bookcase make people more likely to buy? Everyone loves a bargain, while no one loves math.”
Gee if that’s the case then why not go [...]

Web 3.0 yeti attack

Published on August 9, 2007

There are only four things I fear in this world:

Bigfoot (Sasquatch for the purists. Yeti for those of you in Asia)
Small places (I’ve got bad claustrophobia)
Cybernetic beings
Zombies

I recently read that Web 3.0 would bring on the age of the semantic web and that true AI would become a reality. Is that really a good idea? [...]
