I Think Guy Kawasaki Replied

Posted by Chris Knudsen on May 16th, 2006

I was bored one night so I decided to fire off an email to Guy Kawasaki just to see if he would reply.  Here’s what I sent:

Hello, Guy:
I just wanted to drop you a line and thank you for Art of the Start. Besides being the CEO of a very cool Web 2.0 company, I am also an adjunct college professor at Westminster College.  I’m so impressed with your book that I have tossed the traditional textbook and decided to teach strait out of Art of the Start this fall semester.  I will also be podcasting the course on my blog at chrisknudsen.biz.  Thanks for your contribution to the world.  You have certainly had a tremendously positive impact on me.
Regards,
Chris Knudsen

Yes, I was kissing up a bit but its Guy Kawasaki. He one of the greats! He’s one of my hero’s!
Four hours later at 1:21 am I got this reply:
Chris,

Thanks! You’re very kind. I hope it works well for you. My best to you!

Guy
By the way, I started a blog. I hope you’ll check it out:http://blog.guykawasaki.com

It feels like a genuine response. Does it look auto generated to you?  Judd got a little jealous when he saw this and fired off to Guy requesting an interview for BusinessJive. No response so far so I think this may be real. What do you think?

  1. I believe it is a genuine, non-automated, response, because it said, “I hope it works well for you,” referring to using his book for your class.

    Cool stuff.

  2. I think that his assistant replied. Just kidding, I cant believe that is all he said back. Not to kiss your butt but I had your class and it was Great! Your students are lucky.

  3. I wrote to Guy Kawasaki a few months ago and got back a similarly short but (I think) authentic reply.

  5. Unlike you hacks, I’m keeping it real as apparently the only one in the northern hemisphere not to have been emailed by Guy Kawasaki.

Hope you’re all happy, sell outs.

  6. I’ll bet it’s real. I’ve emailed Seth Godin a couple of times, and he emails back. They are also short.

Did you guys know that MWI (Utah/Josh Steimle’s MWI) built Garage Technology Venture’s website?

  7. I’m fairly confident it was Guy himself. When he spoke at Elite Retreat last week, he talked specifically about how he uses his admin for these kinds of things. And he said that although for time saving reasons he wished she could answer his email and comment for him, he didn’t feel like that was the right thing to do in the blogosphere. So he candidly said in a small private room that he answers these things personally.

So consider yourself touched by Guy. :)
