This Usually Works

Posted by Chris Knudsen on May 12th, 2006

I may be the CEO of 10Speed Media but I work for Paul Allen at Provo Labs.  That has its advantages.  Paul will often refer me to people that 10Speed should do business with. I usually fire off an email introduction and put the following in the subject line of the email:

“Paul Allen referred me to you”

or

“Paul Allen mentioned we should meet”

If the President of the United States were friends with Paul Allen I would get at least five minutes of his time even in the middle of a war.  I seriously get a call or return email in under five minutes with one of those lines.  With one exception: On Paul’s recommendation, I emailed an unnamed person at KnowMoreMedia on May 4th and still have not heard back (I even offered to take the guy to lunch - how do you pass that up?). Weird. Maybe I have the wrong email.  Maybe he’s on vacation.  So I’ll throw something out at them and see what happens.  Here it goes:

Dear KnowMoreMedia,

10Speed Media is the coolest Web 2.0 company on the face of the earth.  You really ought to consider giving me a ring to learn more. I think we can help each other in several ways. I’ll even take you out to lunch. What do you say?

Thanks,

Chris Knudsen

I know there are guys from KMM that read my blog so I wonder what this will bring.  At any rate, have a nice weekend.

  1. Chris, I’m sorry we haven’t gotten back to you yet. I don’t know who the person is who hasn’t responded to your email, but I’m sure I know him (it’s almost certainly a “him”) well and can vouch for his character. I’d chalk it up to something other than procrastination, giving that person the benefit of the doubt. I know health issues and crazy amounts of meetings have dogged one or more of our team over the last week or two.

I personally am sorry I’ve taken nearly a month to re-establish contact with you - does school count as an excuse? Now that exams are over and my health is back to normal I’d love to talk to you. Maybe on Monday or Tuesday? I’ll give you a call or email you unless you email me first.
