I’m just winding down one of the best vacations I’ve ever had. My wife and I took our kids - ages 4, 7, 10 - to Disneyland for four days of fun and frolic in the sun. We’ve had a blast! My wife and I were just talking about some of the funny observations we made over the trip:
- Disney has the “market to the poor, live with the rich” thing completely figured out. Disneyland is a total cash cow and most of the people here don’t look like they can really afford to be here.
- If you bring a newborn to Disneyland you are nuts! You’ll have no fun.
- Likewise, if you bring your two year old triplets to Disneyland you are certifiably nuts and should probably be committed.
- If you’re here with no kids but spend time riding on Mr. Toads Wild Ride then you have issues. Dude, go get on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Splash Mountain!!!
- The fastpass is cool. If you do it right - you’ll spend no time in lines.
- Coming to Disneyland at the beginning of March was perfect - small lines and beautiful weather.
- I’m not saying that I’m skinny, but America has an obesity epidemic.
- The Disneyland strollers are worth the $10 daily rental fee.
- You can’t beat the California weather. Its been in the low 70’s all week.
- I’d never heard of the “Hollister” clothing brand before I got here, but those guys have got to be making a killing (another case study in the “market to the poor…” thing).
- I wish I owned a t-shirt company. T-shirts with stupid little quips are a dime a dozen here (example: “don’t talk to the voices in my head”, “always late but worth the wait”, etc)
- There are tons of Mormons here and they love to wear BYU hats and shirts.
- Deodorant is a neat invention that more people should take advantage of.
At any rate, we had a great time! Now I have to go back to work

Hollister has the “make everybody believe all Californians live in a dimly lit beach house and if you wear our clothes, you’re just like them” thing figured out.
They have a big store at the Gateway and others around the state at the local malls.
