Ever since Huckabee got a bump in the poles polls and since Mitt’s “speech on religion” the loons have been coming out of the woodwork. Take for example the recent outrageous statements made by MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell on The McLaughlin Group:
“Romney comes from a religion founded by a criminal who was anti-American, pro-slavery, and a rapist; and he comes from that lineage and says, ‘I respect this religion.’”
That wasn’t all. O’Donnell says the LDS faith is ”demented like Scientology,” and said this was the worst political speech of his lifetime. Do you think he’d still be employed if he has made similar hateful remarks about Jews or some specific race? Ask Don Imus what he thinks. Don’t worry, O’Donnell will get away with his bigoted remarks. After all, anti-Mormonism is the last respectable bigotry in the United States.
What amazes me more than these ridiculous statements are ignorant responses like this:
“BYU political science professor Quinn Monson says it almost made him sick to listen to what O’Donnell had to say. ‘I assumed that if Romney was in the hunt, that the attacks would come. I didn’t expect to see them on a mainstream show,’ he said.”
Are you serious, Mr. Monson? You didn’t expect to see attacks on the Mormon faith in the mainstream media over the Romney campaign? Please!
On top of all this you have a former Southern Baptist minister, Mike Huckabee, the so called “glass jaw” apologizing to Romney for making this statement:
“Don’t Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?”
That’s a nice play right out of the Howard Dean book of campaign strategy. That really is a nice piece of twist and spin.
Having a Southern Baptist minister in the White House would make me nervous. I served an LDS mission in the south and saw the violent hatred that Southern Baptists have for Mormons. Most “Christian” churches have it out for Mormons but the Southern Baptists have a particularly strong hatred for Mormons that runs very deep. I’ve experienced it first hand.
What guarantees do the Latter Day Saints have that a man like Huckabee, who most certainly preached anti-Mormon sermons from the pulpit (why do you think he won’t release his sermons to the public?), will ensure religious liberty for all religions? When will the media demand that Huckabee give his “speech on religion?” I don’t think we have any guarantees with Huckabee but I’m not too worried about it. If he gets the GOP nomination - then Hillary will shatter the “glass jaw” into a million pieces. He has no chance against Hillary Clinton or even a Barak Obama.
Man, I hate to say that I told you so but boy did I call it. It will only get worse as Huckabee gains popularity or if Mitt wins the GOP nomination. And to think we’re still 11 months away from the election…
