Thanks to Jeff Barson for inspiring this post with something similar that he blogged about today.
I was turned on to the Montana Meth Project after running across a story about the program on MSNBC. The project is funded mainly by a private high net worth citizen who was interested in helping bring out awareness of the meth problem in Montana. The campaign is the perfect case study in cause marketing.
I warn you these commercials (being aired on TV across Montana) are graphic and really drive the point home.
These commercial really hit home for me as I have a relative that struggles with addiction that lives in Montana. Its an incredibly devastating thing that has taken a major toll on my family in the last several years.
Perhaps campaigns like the Montana Meth Project will help curve this problem with current and future generations. We can only hope so. Â
Yikes! Those don’t beat around the bush.
Left by Russ on 07/13/2007Arizona’s got the same campaign going. check it out. It looks like the same organization.
Yes - these commercials are disturbing. But not nearly as disturbing as the widespread use of this horrible drug in Arizona.

Thanks for pointing that out and yes it does look like the same campaign. It must be more national than I first thought.
Hopefully we’ll get it here in Utah soon.

Left by Chris Knudsen on 07/13/2007I’ve been involved in a few drug busts in Utah when I worked with a nonprofit that helped build neighborhoods.
Here the issue is really of denial - my kid goes to church or we live in Happy Valley so we don’t have drug problems. Prescription drugs are a big deal.
The link above has the story of a young woman who got charged with murder of her friend. She started using drugs because her mom did. It was the only way she got to be with her mom.
Heartbreaking really.
Sometimes I got a lot of criticism for taking a stand. At times I was afraid I would get hurt. Other times I was a hero. I had nothing personally against anyone I turned in, in fact, I hoped that they cleaned up.
Anyway, poignant post. I hope my son never does drugs. He has a mom who is pretty educated about it.
Here’s to truth in advertising! Now let’s do some reality tv on gangs and other social problems in our country.
