Why I love DVD and HD

Posted by Chris Knudsen on July 13th, 2007

Last night my wife and went to the movies for the first time in a long time. We headed down to Provo to see the new Die Hard movie, which was good but not as good as Transformers (yeah, I’m a child of the 80’s). The movie started at 7:15. Well I should say that the 25 minutes of commercials started at 7:15. The worst part was the three minute Fruit of a Looms commercial (I found the video on YouTube but I won’t link to it) I almost left!

When I’m home I can flip the channel but when you’re sitting in a movie theater you’re stuck! I kept leaning over to my wife telling her that maybe we should have waited for the DVD to come out. After last night I really appreciated my 40 inch Sony 1080 full HD TV and HD DVD player even more. I love to watch movies in the comfort of my own home. No crowds, nobody kicking the seat behind me, no previews, no sticky floors and I can rent DVD’s at RedBox for a buck. Who can beat that?

I love watching the dynamics of a changing market…

  1. Chis - the only way to beat the $1.00 redbox rental is to get one free. Check out REDBOXfriends where users share codes for FREE DVD rentals and write their own reviews. It’s brand new!

  2. Larry Miller’s megaplex theaters is now mostly reserved seating. My wife and I will usually show up after the trailers and still have good seats.

  3. When you stay at home you don’t get to hear the cell phone conversation going on two rows in front of you.

  4. I love going to theaters to see movies. You can’t replace the “big” feel you get there. Sure you can put up a big monitor or projector in your basement, but it’s nothing like the real movie experience. Sound. Smells of popcorn. Over priced Coke. I’ll still go.

  5. I currently use The New Release machine in my grocery store. I am not a fan of McDonalds, so there is no need for me to make an extra visit. Same price structure ($1 per day) yet more selection. You can find the location nearest you at:
