Why NOT to start a start up

Posted by Chris Knudsen on June 18th, 2007

From Mark Andeersson, one of the founders of Netscape comes this post on why NOT to start a start up. The post really reflects a lot of what I’ve been thinking about and feeling lately. The one big thing he missed is that raising capital is a royal pain in the arse. Raising capital and all the associated baggage is by far (IMHO) the biggest reason to stay away from start ups (at least ones that will require capital).

If you are thinking about getting into a start up then I highly encourage you to do it. Its thrilling. However, I also highly encourage you to read Mark’s post. Its a down to earth look at the reality of starting up.

  1. Chris- I couldn’t agree with you more on this post. After doing several start-ups I’ve decided that if I cannot do it on my own dime it’s not worth doing.

This sometimes means giving up some great dreams but I’ve decided that capital raising and investor relations takes all the fun out of the dream! ~Paul W.
