Not to be out done by Utah programming geeks getting marketing guru Seth Godin to speak in Utah tomorrow -Â a group of Utah marketing geeks announced today that they have secured Linus Torvalds, inventor of Linux to speak in Utah at July’s Utah Marketing Association monthly luncheon.
“I’m so stoked - I’ve been watching Linus videos on Youtube all day!” said Utah marketing guru Brad Baldwin, “I’ve never really seen his stuff but I know its free and I’m sure it will be a cool event.”
If the event goes over well the UMA plans on bringing more events to Utah over the next year.
“We’d like to bring in the guy who invented Ethernet, the guy who thought of PHP and the guys who thought of the space-elevator.” said Cydni Tetro VP of Marketing at NextPage, “We’re not sure why but it will be cool to get people like that here to Utah to speak.”
“I look forward to speaking to Linus about promoting his product for him.” said Bruce Law founder of Sprout Marketing, “I’m sure that Linux Corp could use our help - we have good ideas about how to price his product that will make Microsoft think twice about their evil monopoly.” Â
“Linus who?” said Utah loudmouth blogger extraordinaire, Chris Knudsen, “If he’s not associated with Microsoft I won’t be there…Mountainpalooza, baby…whoa!!!”
The event is sure to draw hundred of Utah technology professionals unless there is an entry fee.
More sarcastic details to come…
(Wait, I thought I said I wasn’t going to blog this summer? look forward to seeing all of you at the event…well most of you that is
In all seriousness - congrats again to the Wordmob group for pulling together this event.)

The only problem being that Utah is pretty far away from Seattle and we’re running mighty lean on cash right now. Of course I’m sure a bunch of maybe-fictional marketers have a lush budget for those kinds of things so … count us in.
Coach is fine, aisle seat please.
If not we can negotiate something I’m sure.

It’s like open season for Utah’s little man’s disease.

I think we should get you here. I hear our VC’s need to deploy some cash so you could pitch while you’re here as well.
I’m not sure if we could afford coach. Would you do Greyhound?
Left by Chris Knudsen on 05/23/2007LOL. Sad thing is I’m probably the geekiest marketing dude you’ll run across. AND as for Ethernet’s inventor, that’s Bob Metcalfe, and before you ask, yes, I have met him and have a for you to enjoy.
Left by Brad Baldwin on 05/24/2007[...] Loved Chris Knudsen’s blog post today. Funny. Linus would be high on the list. But I’m also pretty tight with some bioscientist’s and feel “software” engineers are a bit “overated”. Maybe Niroshan Ramachandran who worked on the Human Genome project and is now leading the charge on Proteomics. He’d show these geeks some really amazing stuff about delving into DNA to find cures to cancer. [...]
