“You don’t get it” and the social web

Posted by Chris Knudsen on April 3rd, 2007

I’ve been seeing a lot of “you don’t get it” comments on some blogs lately about new technologies that have a lot of people legitimately scratching their heads. So I found this great quote from Mark Cuban - I’ll let him take it from here:

“Is there any more lame a comment than “You just don’t get it”. Its a simple, dismissive phrase that says more about the person saying it than the person/organization its directed to. Its a way of saying “You dont agree with me, but i dont have anything of consequence to say. “You just don’t get it” stops any discussion where i might be asked to say something worthwhile dead in its tracks.”

The one year anniversary of my blog is on April 10th. I think I’ll slow start coming back sometime next week.

I look forward to continuing the discussion with you…

  1. Chris,

I agree with you. Much of the world has successfully coopted statements which deprive the other person of a meaningful reponse. If someone disagrees with your position, call him/her a racist, bigot, homophone, etc., etc., etc. to terminate the discussion rather than providing a meaningful retort. There is some technology that some people love and other people hate. There is some things I am glad that I don’t get.
