RIP March 21, 2007: Affiliate Networks

Google just announced the beta launch of their new pay-per-action (affiliate) network. Mike Arrington over at TechCrunch said it best:
“Affiliate marketing networks like Commission Junction and LinkShare are screwed.”
Agreed!
The networks aren’t necessarily screwed. Those affiliate networks are very well established, so Google will have to deliver to the goods to get any kind of traction.
That said, this is Google we’re talking about. They’ve got a lot of resources, and a huge distribution channel to work with, so if anyone can do it, why not Google? I’m anxious to see how it plays out.
