In June, Liz and I are planning on renting an RV and touring around southern Utah with out kids (ages 3,6,9 by the time we go). We only have five to seven days to get in all the sights. We’ve never been to the parks in southern Utah (if you can believe that!) so we need some help. What would you recommend we see? Where would you suggest we spend our time? What would be most fun for our kids?
Any suggestion is appreciated!Â
You have got to go to Zion’s. It is easy to get to and has beautiful scenery. Once you get there, you have to park by the main visitor’s center and then they have free buses that take you through the canyon. There are several stops you can get out and take a hike. With your kids, you probably don’t want to go on any major ones (like Angel’s landing) but there are smaller ones with waterfalls that are really nice.
You can also drive through the long tunnel they have down there (although I’m not sure how well an RV would do). The kids would like it though.
There is also an IMAX theater in town close by that usually has some cool movie about the canyon or nature-related theme.
A nice place to pull off and camp (if you call being in an RV camping
) is the Red Cliff campground. It is over by Silver Reef just off of I-15. It is easy to get to and we had a lot of fun as kids there. There is a little canyon with some deep, blue water pools and waterfalls you can hike into (really easy, short hike).
Another really nice national park is Arch’s (it is over by Moab though).
The Grand Canyon is also down there. I don’t think I have ever been to the main part that most people see but I have been on some backroads you can take for some pretty stunning images.
Whichever parks you choose, you can’t go wrong. It is beautiful down there.
